NEWS | October 2021 | Save the date for our first community event!

Updated: Nov 11

Dear Community,

We hope you are all taking very good care of yourselves at this time of transition. Hats off to all the teachers and parents out there who have been navigating remote learning (amongst other demands) for the past 9 weeks. Such an epic effort!

In this months NEWS:

  • Save the date for our very first community event featuring PASI SALHBERG, an internationally renowned educator leading research and theory in play-based learning and the benefits of being outdoors.

  • We have an exciting opportunity to negotiate a school site within a local development. Anyone out there interested in design, with project management and co-development experience? If so, read below.

COMMUNITY EVENT | in conversation with Pasi Sahlberg.

Save the date: Friday 3rd December, 5-8pm (local venue TBC)

We are very excited to announce our first ever fundraising event featuring the wonderful and legendary, Pasi Sahlberg, a Finnish Educator, Scholar and Author of ‘Let the children play: how more play will save our schools and help children thrive’. He is the deputy director and research director at the Gonski Institute for Education at UNSW. To say we are thrilled to have him is an understatement!

On Friday 3rd December, Pasi will be talking to us about:

The Future of Education in Australia. At this event you’ll get a chance to meet the local team bringing Green Mountain Community School to life and get up to speed on where the project is at.

To make sure this event is accessible for everyone:

  • Tickets will be at sliding scale prices - you can choose the investment that best suits your budget.

  • It will be family friendly - children are very welcome (of course!) and storytime and seasonal craft activities will be available to keep them busy.

  • Light refreshments will be on offer.

*This will be a Covid Safe event

The team are so looking forward to bringing this event and our community together and hope to galvanise support and excitement around the potential that Green Mountain Community School represents for our local area.

We may be in touch a little more frequently in November as we share the details of this event. In the meantime, please save the date in your calendar.

SCHOOL SITE | seeking a property specialist and enthusiast

Gratefully, we have an exciting opportunity for a school site within a local development. Negotiations are underway, however we’d love someone to support our efforts who has an interest in design and experience with project management and co-development in the retail sector. The window for the opportunity is tight, so if you feel you might be able to help us, we’d be so, so grateful! We’ve put together the following volunteer job description:

Property Specialist and Enthusiast

  • Understands and is confident to partner with landowners, property developers and management and with council planning

  • Has an interest in designing unique nature-based learning environment for children and in which community can convene

  • Is willing to volunteer 1-2 hour per week to collaborate with a small dynamic core team and embrace a non-hierarchical culture of cooperation

Please get in touch if you think you can help and pass on to anyone who may be interested.

That’s it for this month's NEWS!

As always, many thanks for your interest and support.

We will be in touch soon with details of our fundraising event (Friday 3rd December, 5-8pm - don’t forget to save the date)!

Warm regards,

The Green Mountain School Team.
